Gears of War 3 arrived today, although I must resist for the sake of my weekly hobby target.

Picking it up tonight although I doubt I'll play it until Wednesday or possibly tomorrow if I manage to find my way home before 11.30 heh.

Depending on work finish tomorrow, I expect I will get mine sometime on Wednesday.

However the chance of any more purchases have been ruined by having to pay for my Road Fund Licence. :'(

Did succomb to a quick blast on Gears tonight

Weekly hobby status is 3 models completed, leaving me 2 short. I'm not too disappointed though as during the week I've actually worked on all 10 models in my crew, so I reckon the remaining 7 models are between 60% and 80% done. My target for next Monday is then to have my entire Cutlass crew painted, all 10 models.

Perhap they need a add an element of melee combat to the proceedings.

I've really enjoyed my painting sessions this last week. Being a bit of a painting n00b there's a natural reluctance to try out techniques in case in goes it all goes Pete Tong, but at the end of the day there's no substitute for "just getting on with it", and I won't develop and improve my technique without making mistakes.

I look forward to the day when I can look back from a position of relative experience upon the models I've painted this the last week and, with a shake of my head and a nostalgic smile, confidently pronounce them "rubbish" from a position of borderline competence where I'm able to identify exactly what I did wrong. I make no predictions for just how far in the future that day will be though

lol, I class myself as a "competent" painter, able to paint to reasonable standard. You'll soon be declaring everthing you paint as rubbish as you strive to achieve golden demon winning standards and failing miserably! Or is that just me?

thanks gareth although some of that ive had to reseach into lol some of it looks beyound me since i only know drybushing techniqune which i found useful for skellies

As you've probably seen there are loads of good painting resources spread across the Internet, but if you're after a lot of good advice in one place then you could do a lot worse than grab a copy of How To Paint Citadel Miniatures from Games Workshop. It can be had cheaper than the GW RRP from various other places, and there's probably a copy or two on Ebay as well - just be aware that there's an older version of the book with a similar cover that won't reference the newer foundation paints and washes in the GW range. Obviously the book only has examples of painting models in the WFB, W40K and LotR ranges, but the techniques are completely transferable. I'll try and remember to bring my copy along to the meeting tonight so you can have a look.

I've only used GW paints so far myself so can't offer a comparison to other ranges, but I've found there's a good choice of colour, the foundation paints give good coverage, and the washes work well.

Definitely not just you - I already declare everything I paint as rubbish, I just don't know how to fix it yet
