Next Army
#1
Having a bit of a crisis, not sure what army i should make a start on next. Was originally planning on doing some Blood Angels, but now i'm not so sure. It's become a choice of Tau, Eldar or Blood Angels. Already have about 950 points of Eldar models so i'm tempted to carry on with those before starting something else. AHH CHOICES!!!!

well i have a slow building force of around 1000 points of eldar and their pretty frail i must say intresting powerfull but think of them as the glass cannon fraction
tau are a one trick poney in shooting
blood angels are a one trick poney in combat

I play Dark Eldar, so i'm used to frail units, and seen as most eldar have a 4+ armour save thats pretty tough by my standards XD
And i wouldnt call blood angels one trick ponies in assault, seen as like all space marine armies they can be very shooty as well, they just happen to have more specialist assault units than normal marines.

As an Eldar player myself I would recommend Eldar Smile, they're not easy, like Dark Eldar as I'm sure you're more than aware of.

Blood Angles have the most 'competitive' book out of the 3 armies you listed, so you cannot really go wrong with them. Smile

Post up some army lists/army builds you fancy, be it fast assault, shooty or mech or a bit of everything!!??

Blood Angels i was originally just going to use crazy builds, like maxing out on dreadnaughts ( BA's can fit 11 of these into a standard force organisation) or a jump pack assault army, already have a list for a decent one. Wanted to do armies that would be unique to blood angels codex and rules, no matter whether they were good ideas or not, as long as it looked fun enough to try. I already have a decent force of about 1000 eldar or so, and a few additions and a liberal sprinkling of squad upgrades will take it to 1500 points easily enough. Its mostly going to be a shooty force, with some banshees, warlocks and a wraithlord to counter attack

I actually considered an all Dreadnought army, I really like the idea actually, not sure how it would play, be it fun or not.

It would be rather slow, but pretty much unstoppable in close combat. The main weakness with traditional dreadnaughts ive always thought is the low number of attacks. A basic one has 2 attacks, a furioso has 3 and the death company fares a little better at 4 attacks. Give them Blood Talons, and they can potentially kill everything in combat with them in one turn, not forgetting that Death Company Dreadnaughts get furious charge, with the Blood Talons giving rerolls to wound and each unsaved wound grants an extra attack, until no more wounds are caused. Only downside is the rage rule, they cant be controlled. I was just going to dump a bunch of them in drop pods, and deploy half of them right next to the enemy in the first turn, and watch them have fun fighting them off before the rest join in.

I've had a little think about an all dread list and I feel this is most likely the best, it's not blood angles though.

Master of the forge

Ironclad – hunter killer missile x2
Ironclad – hunter killer missile x2
Ironclad – hunter killer missile x2

Dreadnought 2x autocannons
Dreadnought 2x autocannons
Dreadnought 2x autocannons

Depending on the rest of the points, scouts or tactical marines in drop pods and maybe 3 drop pods for the ironclads, so they can drop first turn. Or no drop pods and deploy on the field and walk up, saving the points for the drop pods and spending them on more troops Smile

Not enough dreadnaughts for my tastes, Blood Angels can take them in every force slot except HQ and Fast Attack, and that means you can take lots. Furioso and Librarian as Elites, Death Company dreadnaughts as Troops and the good, old fashioned shooty ones as Heavy Support.
This force would have NO scoring units, but you dont need scoring units when you can drop pod in and trample everything to death in a couple of turns, using the drop pod frag cannon furioso combo. 2 shot strength 6 rending templates.....yum....and dont forget Blood Talons!!!

lol - so true, shame you can only take a death comp dread when you take a squad of death comp infantry first. Still three dreads though!
