Escalation Narrative campaign ideas
#1
I've had a couple of the guys kindly offer to write some fluff for the 40K campaign, which sounds excellent to me.

So thought it would be wise to create this thread to hash those ideas out and come up with a central plot point, allowing you guys to then go off and let your creative juices flow! Big Grin

Armies trapped in the warp at the whims of the chaos gods made to fight each other over and over, with only the winner promised escape.
They fight for months as a time, occasionally finding more members of their full army along the way, and yet even with all the death and killing, no one seems to stay dead for long, returning to life to join in the next battle.
W40K: Blood Ravens / Orks / Inquisitor / Imperial Guard
Warhammer: Dwarfs
Warmachine: Protectorate of Menoth / Khador / Cygar / Circle
Malifaux: Started Neverborn and Outcasts

How how about..

A rebellious Imperial planet needs bringing into line as its of importance to the Imperium (Ammuniations, Fuel, Raw Materials etc), so Marines are sent to quell the rebellious uprising using a small force to over throw the leaders, Dark Angels believe someone (cypher) could be corrupting the local populous so have also sent an investigation team, Eldar are actually manipulating the the locals, with Dark Eldar reaping the rewards, Daemons and Chaos follow the Eldar psychic trail to the planet while also seizing the chance more people to enslave, so are also planning an invasion to take the planet as there own, just as a splinter force from a larger Tyranid invasion in the area crash into the planet. Leading to the campaign.

Would give each 'faction' a reason to fight for there own end goals and also an overall goal, protecting the population vs destroying the population

Had a look at crusade of fire and seems ok but we may want to pick and choose what we use.

Basic premise is that a solar system has been cut of for 1000 years by a warp storm which has just receeded, revealing a few of the outer planets. As campaign goes on more of the planets are revealed so new spoils to figt over. (Could be that fleets are scattered by the storm and come in dribs and drabs hence the escalation thing). Three factions - 'Chaos' (Chaos/orks/necrons), Imperium's side (incl. Eldar?) and a 3rd neutral faction who are out to get anyone (tyranids, dark eldar, tau?).

So at the start of the campaign you place 5 flags on the campaign map on a single planet. Can challenge anyone on the same plant as you to a game or anyone on another planet but would have to play a planet strike scenario (I don't own planet strike so don't know what this involves). Can play any no. of games in a campaign turn (1 month?) and each time you win you replace an opponents flag with your own. At the end of a turn everyone places an additional flag in an empty space.

Scoring: count no. of flags you hold on each planet and add that score either to your faction score, or to your personal score. Winner is the highest score from the winning faction.

Also some hexes are space ports/factories/shield gens/power plants which give bonuses if you hold them.

Would need a diff campain map as the one they have is only suitable for about 6-8 players, and we have about 14 but wouldn't be too much work to draw up a bigger one.

What do people think. Quite simple concept which is prob a good thing but if someone has better system then happy to go with whatever.
40K - Dark Angels, Dark Eldar, Necrons; Lord of the Rings - lots; Bloodbowl - Dwarves, Wood Elves; SAGA - Anglo Danes & Welsh; Guildball - Morticians, Engineers; Dropzone/fleet - Shaltari

I also have planetary empires, so could divide the hexes up to represent the planets?

Crusade of fire seems a good system to use, will try and obtain a copy tonight so can glance through it.

Trazyn the infinite. The ever living, collector of artifacts and hoarder of antiquties beyond value has spent the time since his awakening gathering to him some of the rarest and most valuable relics in the galaxy. His stasis vavaults, hidden in the darkest corners of the galaxy each store treasures of immense worth from all the major civilisations of the milky way.

Yet when a vault in the Prasees sector malfunctions, opening its riches to those that would claim them. With its stasis fields and defenses and its null field pylons rendered inert the vault stands unguarded and all who seek ita riches, even trazyn himself, must fight their way to the vaults controls and expose its hidden depths.

Who knows what lies in the heart of trazyns vault. Long lost STC databases, artifacts of chaos (thankfully) long hidden from the agents of the ruinous powers, entirely new xenos with unique genetics, craftworlds, voidships and fragments of the gods themselves may lay hidden in its dimensionally twisted labarinths.

The factions of the galaxy have thrown caution to the wind in a effprt the secure the vault. For it may contain the means to elevate their faction to dominion over the galaxy, or doom them forever should someone else find it first.

AUTHORS NOTE: Hey all, this is my rough idea for the narrative. Allows everyones faction a vested interest doing well. Mightbneed hekp ti figure out what some races (nids, dark eldar, tau) would want from the vaults.

Maybe have some armywide buffs should someone succeed in capturing the vault and then have everyone else pool their resources to try and cruah them. Just a thought n
