Valkyrie & Grav Chutes
#1
Just after some confirmation on how the Valkyrie & Grav Chure now work in 6th edition.

I have read & reread the rules and still do not fully understand how it should be played, hoping someone has had some experience.

What happens is that a
  1. Valkyrie appears in Flying mode and moves 18".
  2. Unit of Imperial Guard want to disembark.
Does the unit get placed near the base of the Valkyrie model
or
Does the unit have to do a Deep Strike, and if so how are the Deep Strike rules modified/played.

Thanks in advance.

The only way you can disembark in flying mode (or after moving more 6" as per the latest FAQ) is to do a "Grav chute insertion", which is to place a model anywhere under the Valkyries flight path and deep strike as normal. If you scatter on to something that would make you mis-hap then the whole squad is destroyed!
Hope that helps, if not let me know and will help. Smile

Thanks, I'll read the rules again.

What about the Mishap rules, surely I cannot disappear into the Warp.

No. If the squad has a mishap you don't roll on the chart, the unit is destroyed. Even if you can't quite deploy one man, the whole unit is destroyed. No roll on the chart.

Is hover mode a safer bet for deploying troops, as the Valk is now a Skimmer.

It depends, sometimes that gamble can be a game winner (hence why i run three squads in Valk/Vends) but even in hover mode you can only deploy troops via Grav chute if you move over 6" due to the latest FAQ rule changes copied below-
Page 56 – Valkyrie Assault Carrier, Grav Chute Insertion.
The first sentence should be changed to:
If a Valkyrie or a Vendetta moved more than 6", passengers
may still disembark, but they must do so as follows.

You can guarntee going into Hover mode that your Valkyrie WILL die that turn unless you have seriously weathered your opponents shooting capacity down.

I'll try out the rules Tuesday night with a small Special Weapons Squad and a Vendetta.

I like to run Vets in them, dropping them in on objectives etc.
Had a little chuckle as i experimented with a Vendetta and special weapon squad at first before i went mad for them and got 3!

Yeah I use one with melta vets in similarly to Vince but only the one. Works well as a strike unit but has little staying power. I wouldn't risk my Vendetta hovering as I only have the one.

I think if you're going to employ the vet squad in vendetta, you're best doing what vince does, take 3, having 30 infantry in your lines is a horrible, horrible thing.. Dodgy
