In war of the ring, units are fielded in companies of 8 infantry or 2 cavalry. Just matching the movement trays. As an example of how big the formations can get. In one scenario you're allowed 1250 points from the elven kingdoms. Each galadhrim company is 45 points, of which you're allowed up to 6 (48 models). This is just 270 points of your army list. Add another 6 companies of archers for 300 points and u can see how big the formations could be. At present I haven't got enough figures to cover a game like this.

In the legions of middle earth book have a look from page 100 onwards. We can do a random scenario from there.

These scenarios also allow us to play good v good or evil v evil.
