RE: New edition of SAGA - Gareth - 20-09-2017

Not sure what I think. I am really worried that they will try to adopt a weird everyone battles anyone kind of thing, that the game has started towards by covering different time periods. I do get that the Welsh never battled the Pagan Rus, but they were both Dark Age armies and theoretically could have. However once you start pitting Welsh against Moors things started to stretch thin. Now Welsh against Fuedal Japanese just because people want rules for those, I'm not really a big fan. I'm also hoping that we see small tweaks in the rules where necessary. I always found SAGA to be a well written rules set, that didn't need much fixing.

Can't think of anything that needs tweaking in Saga - such a good game already! Good to see continued support for the game. A far east set of army rules would be cool - could use test of honour models for the Japanese!

RE: New edition of SAGA - Walters - 19-02-2018

I picked up these at Beachhead. I don't know the original rules well enough to tell much about what the changes are. One which stands out is Levy groups of 6+ producing a SAGA dice.
I will bring them along to the club if anyone wants a glance at them.

Cheers Tony, I'd be interested in a look. Presumably you picked up both the core rulebook and the Dark Ages supplement?

Anybody thinking of picking up this game the core rules are £10 and the Dark Age supplement £30:

Might wait and pick up a copy at Salute this year I think.

Not received my new rulebook yet. Anyone know of a link to a summary of the main rules changes from the previous edition?

Found a link to a good summary of some of the main rules changes in SAGA 2:

http://skirmishwargaming.com/saga-second-edition-changes/

Some interesting changes! Things that stick out for me are the changes in use of fatigue and only hearthguard taking hits for the Warlord, plus generation of SAGA dice is diff - levy generate if over 6 in a unit and warriors generate if over 4. Warlord only generates one dice, has lost 'with me' but generates 8 attack dice now.

Plus, it looks like SAGA fantasy version is on the horizon!

Nice find Chris - that fantasy version sounds interesting!
