What league rules are we using, its just that we are player everyone else once, but in Death Zone a season consists of playing each team in your division twice.
Are we allowed to play friendlies to develop our teams during the season.

yes it does but if we did no one would play every game as the playoffs will start in October

only in the postseason as if not it could end up with teams who haven't played any league games but have an amazing team from friendlies. But you are allowed to play friendlies as practice but that will not impact your team e.g star player points and deaths/injuries

Friendlies are a risk/benefit for both teams, but in death zone (page 23) for each game you should workout your team value. Then the team which is cheapest can spend the value difference on inducements to balance the game. This will be needed anyway because after one league game everyone's team value changes, they will also help if you have players killed giving you the chance to hire mercenaries.
