Ok folks I know AoS isn't the most popular of systems at RWS, for whatever reason. I quite like the games mechanics, and find that scenario play rather than the simplified 4 page rules, are the way to go. Also Dave really seems to want to get his Skaven on the table, and I NEED a reason to assemble an army on round bases.

So I am trying to gauge interest in a campaign over the summer. Im looking time permitting to come up with my own story driven scenario's rather than stock out of the book ones (or rather find a book scenario that I can change the background of to fit a plot,) so it will probably be one or two games a month max.

Im not going to enforce players use round bases so if you fancy using an existing force on squares I'm not going to make you re-base or start afresh, although the models do look better on rounds (not quite as good as a unit of 40 Gobbos ranked up, but what they hey.) And there will be a points limit of some sort (I'm going to look over the 3 publish army selection systems, and decide which I prefer.)

Anyway no date set in stone yet, but as I said I would like to determine interest, so if you fancy a trip into the Age of Sigmar please let me know.
Take Two...

I'd like to do some fantasy. Doing a campaign is a great idea Gaz.

Just checked AoS and seems can do a vampire army. I have some vampire stuff and associated skeles I could put on round bases.

So if you can give me some sort of army list guide Gaz what points etc I'll see what I can do..
Are Wood Elves still a thing in AoS? Could be tempted if so.
I will bring the Skaven to the Party, this may encourage me to paint them a bit more.
Paul - As there are no points there really isn't anything I can supply you with currently. There are a number of systems that are available though, to determine a balanced game. I intend to look over these and decide which system I prefer, although at the time I haven't got around to more than reviewing the clash comp (Independent Pool Choices) a few months ago whilst playing a demo against Dave.

Stuart - Wood Elves currently are in AoS. I say currently, because as of Thursday 18/2/16, the Tomb Kings are too. However it is expected that come Saturday, they are removed from the game. However it might be best to describe the game system. There are currently four Alliances, Order, Chaos, Destruction and Death. Chaos being equivalent to Warrior of Chaos, Beastsmen, Deamons and the new Khorne Bloodbound. Destruction are Orcs and Goblins, along with the Ogres. Death are Vampire Counts and Tomb Kings, whilst Order fill in the rest including Dark Elves. However in these Alliances, there are then sub-factions, which tend to have Keywords associated with them. Your standard Wood Elves, have the Keywords Ælf, and Wanderer. The Ælf means that they have synergies with other Ælf factions, including the High Elves and Dark Elves, whilst the Wanderer keyword becomes more associated with the Wood Elf models. So if you select as a model in your force the Glade Captain Battle Standard Bearer, he has an ability that only effects Wanderer models. As such the deeper into an alliance you delve the greater the synergies you find, however the more limited in choice of models you find, and the more specialised your force becomes. in other words your free to select some of the new Auric Hearthguard to play with, but they will become less powerful then if they were accompanied with other Fyreslayer characters. Also with Wood Elves its worth noting that the old Forest Spirits in the Wood Elf books are NOT Wanderers. They now have the Sylvaneth Keyword, which whilst you can still field a Wood Elf force similar to that of old, with Archers and Treemen, they do not have as close Synergies that used to.
I hope that explains things better, although if it hasn't I can show you some time, how it works.
Cheers Gaz. It really just comes down to us having a load of unused Wood Elf models that I like the look of Smile
Hi Gaz. Aha! OK.
I am intrigued by this key word idea. Interesting.
I'll grab the rules and have read.
Basically I want to put a force to one side to base and paint then I feel on course. Just need to get an idea on that basis.

Paul for a general idea head over to Warscroll Builder for a rough estimate. The pool system is what's commonly known as Clash comp, and was the first put out. It's led by community feedback and I used it to try and create a balanced force to play against Dave, and the game was pretty interesting. The SDK is what's being used at Adepticon in the US, but I don't really know how it works. The SCGT system has just been published and currently is in its first iteration. It's been worked on by some of the UKs top players for their own event, and works similar to Clash comp although the pools/points have gone up allowing them greater scope to fine tune the score on units.

OK Gaz, will do.

I see there is a new Death 'Codex (?)' book coming out tomoz so will grab that for a tenner.

Found all the free pdf Warscroll 'Codex' compendiums, grabbed them. And the 4 page rules (is that it?)

There's also a note under that book in GW that links to free pdf for all the Tomb Kings stuff, so does that infer TK's 'officially out' but 'unofficially in'!
As of TODAY I imagine they are in. Tomorrow when the Death book comes out, I expect TK PDF to be removed.

However AoS is more a case of pick what you fancy playing with and have fun. Sometimes things get better in bigger units, for instance a Dryad unit with 12 or more models gets to add 1 to save rolls, but in essence if you fancy picking a random box of models that fit your alliance, to build and paint, that's all you need. Which is where the appeal lies for new entrants. It then just a case of trying to balance the games, for a competitive and enjoyable reasoning. The GE Throne of Skulls had a force selection of 60 models, of which you could deploy any number of models using the games rules. However the winner of the event, would be determined via favourite game votes, so whilst you could take 60 Cannons, you wouldn't win the event, and probably have an I in-enjoyable time. Anyway yes the Death book is cheap, mainly because I doubt there will be much in it. You can pick up the models rules for free, although the Battalions tend to be restricted to the books. If your unsure of a battalion it's a 40k formation, so models that fit the battalion will get bonuses. Battalions also fit in battalions in some cases.
